Who is The Balanced Duo?
Meet Renae Fowler
Renae Fowler Bsc (Hons) brings a wealth of experience to the field of horse and rider therapy. Growing up on a farm in Cowaramup in the South West of WA, Renae has been around horses from an early age. She has not only competed but also taught and broken in young horses.
Still living on the same farm, in the Margaret River region, Renae has over 20 years experience as a qualified Musculoskeletal Therapist. She has worked extensively with a variety of athletes, giving her deep insight into movement, performance, and the physical challenges that equestrians face. The outcome is clearer communication, greater comfort, and a stronger connection, creating a truly balanced duo: horse and rider moving as one.
"Whether you’re a competitive athlete chasing performance gains or a horse owner wanting more ease and harmony in your rides, I can tailor the treatment to deliver lasting results for both you and your horse." Renae.

Equine & Rider Bodywork
"It is amazing to see the difference in both the horse and rider movement patterns after I have done the release work."

Equine Works
Equine bodywork that restores balance and unlocks performance
Before Renae starts any treatment, every horse is individually assessed to uncover areas of tension, restriction, or imbalance that may be limiting comfort, movement, or performance. Through equine bodywork and equine muscle release therapy, each treatment is tailored to support recovery, restore mobility, and optimise overall wellbeing.
For competitive riders, this can mean sharper performance, faster recovery, and greater alignment between horse and rider. For horse owners, it ensures long-term comfort, soundness, and a happier, more responsive partner.
Treatments are tailored to your horse’s individual needs, with the aim of restoring balance, releasing restrictions, and optimising wellbeing. The result is a horse that moves more comfortably, feels more responsive, and is better able to perform at its full potential whether at competition level or simply enjoying the ride.
Rider Therapies
Unlocking connection through rider alignment and body awareness
Your posture, movement patterns, and physical imbalances don’t just affect you, they directly influence how your horse moves. Through tailored rider posture assessment and a focus on rider biomechanics, each session is designed to improve alignment, strength, and body awareness, both in and out of the saddle.
For competitive riders, this means sharper aids, better balance, and greater harmony in performance. For horse owners, it supports comfort, confidence, and a stronger connection with your horse.
By addressing restrictions and restoring balance, rider therapy enhances your effectiveness while supporting your horse’s comfort and wellbeing. When paired with equine bodywork and equine muscle release therapy, the result is genuine horse and rider alignment.
Combined Treatments
Combined therapy for precision, power, and peak performance.
With every stride, horse and rider influence one another. Peak performance depends on balance, both in the horse and the rider. At The Balanced Duo, each partner is assessed individually: horses through equine bodywork, a detailed evaluation of the horse’s balance, and muscle function. The rider posture assessment focuses on rider biomechanics through alignment, posture, and movement assessments.
Any restriction, tension, or imbalance in horse or rider can reduce speed, precision, and agility in competition. By combining targeted rider treatments with advanced equine bodywork, this approach improves strength, recovery, and responsiveness.
The result is genuine horse and rider alignment, a seamless partnership where horse and rider move as one. This method of combined horse and rider therapy gives competitive athletes the edge: sharper performance, clearer communication, and lasting results in the arena.

Horse & Rider Partnership work in Margaret River & Beyond
Horse Hip Release Strategy
In this technique I’m working around the horse’s hip and pelvis area, using gentle pressure and release.
This helps to ease tight muscles that support the hip joint, improving flexibility and comfort through the hind end.
By releasing tension here, it allows the horse to move more freely, track up better, and carry themselves with more balance and power.
Equine Stretch & Release
It’s essential to focus on education!
By initiating from the grassroots level, we can create a better world for both horses and humans.
Teaching this young individual about the importance of stretching a pony’s legs before a ride is crucial.
Not just doing it…..or the how to…..but the why! We stretch, and we help them stretch.
Rider Hip Mobility
This rider has been finding it difficult to open their hips and bring the leg back into position in the saddle. Here I’m assessing hip mobility and pelvic function to identify what’s holding them back.
By working through these restrictions off the horse, we can help create a more open, balanced seat—making cues clearer and movement more comfortable for both horse and rider.
TMJ - Small Joint, Big Attitude
I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful horse who has been carrying some musculoskeletal imbalances. Here, I am releasing and treating the TMJ (temporomandibular joint).
This little joint plays a huge role in overall biomechanics. When it’s restricted, tension can ripple through the poll, neck, shoulders, and even into the hindquarters. By releasing this area, we help restore comfort, balance, and freedom of movement, allowing the horse to feel lighter, softer, and more connected.
Who is Renae Fowler?
"I’ve been around horses my whole life. I practically grew up in the saddle, and I have my Pop to thank for that. He taught me everything, from the smallest details of horsemanship to the deep, silent connection between human and horse. I still feel his spirit present on the farm today - it is a beautiful reminder of the passion and knowledge he passed down."
As a young girl growing up in Cowaramup, Pop taught me how to ride and back then, I would ride my horse to Margaret River down the Wadandi track.
I competed at a high level in Eventing (Cross Country as it was known then) and just before a competition, Pop would always say to me
“She”ll be right Rabby”.
I always knew working with horses is where I was meant to be. I finished my equestrian athletic career to focus on my University study where I earned my Honours degree.
Over the course of my career as a Musculoskeletal Therapist, I have worked with athletes across many disciplines. Nowadays, my daughter is an equestrian athlete and as she began competing at higher levels, I noticed an increasing number of riders coming to the clinic with recurring imbalances. Even after treatment, many returned with the same issues within weeks.
This raised a deeper question: was the rider’s imbalance being caused, or reinforced, by the horse? When I began looking more closely, the answer was clear. Restrictions or asymmetry in the horse were influencing the rider’s posture, just as rider imbalances were affecting the horse’s movement capabilities and patterns.
Wanting to know more, I embarked upon further study into equine biomechanics and equine muscle release therapy with Equestricare, bringing together what I had learnt in clinic with what I knew from all the years of working with horses. This became the foundation of The Balanced Duo.
Based in the heart of the South West of Western Australia, in the Margaret River Region, I am dedicated to serving our local equestrian and agricultural communities.
I look forward to helping you and your equine partner achieve your full potential, together."
